People and planet
Give Lively values all people and the health of our one and only planet. This is expressed most emphatically in our publicly stated progressive values against which we review every membership application to ensure nonprofit alignment.
We also abide by these values internally, encouraging and supporting our team’s efforts to rally around ideas that demonstrate our beliefs and commitments.
People and planet
Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)
Give Lively aims to ensure that the people who build Give Lively:
- are diverse (and celebrated for it)
- experience equity and accessibility
- work in and contribute to an inclusive culture.
Give Lively values directly related to DEI
We do not approve the membership applications of any organization that will use our platform or products to:
Discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status in any activities, programs or operations
👩🏾
Advocate against or deny the rights of historically underrepresented groups, including Black, brown, AAPI and Indigenous people
Advocate against or deny the rights or existence of anyone on the basis of their sex, gender, gender expression or sexual orientation, including transgender and gender nonconforming people
Advocate against or deny the rights of women
DEI in practice
- DEI-influenced hiring practices such as posting on diverse job boards, salary transparency in postings, fair and location-based payment practices, and "name blind" resume reviews
- Clear and enforceable policies against workplace harassment and discrimination
- Annual staff trainings covering dignity and respect in the workplace
- Ongoing backing of an internal, staff-managed special interest group that guides DEI discussions and initiatives
- Regular interactive lunch-and-learn meetings on topics associated with DEI
- Collaboration around DEI-centered nonprofit spotlights on the Updates page
- Creation and distribution of a DEI survey of Give Lively employees to measure of DEI progress
- Issuance of social-justice position statements, as we did in support of Black Lives Matter in June 2020 and solidarity with Asian Americans in March 2021, and rejecting armed violence and hate speech in October 2023.
Sustainability
Give Lively aims to be a standard for nonprofit fundraising – responsible, sustainable and equitable.
- We shouldn’t have to suspend our values to protect our world.
- We shouldn’t have to ignore the future to better the present.
- We shouldn’t have to court injustice to preserve social balance.
Give Lively value directly related to sustainability
We do not approve the membership applications of any organization that will use our platform or products to:
🌍
Advocate against or deny environmental or social sustainability practices especially with regard to renewable energy; land, water and air rights and use; and the growing climate emergency
Sustainability in practice
- Ongoing backing of an internal, staff-managed special interest group that guides sustainability discussions and initiatives
- A fully remote workforce with no commutes
- Collaboration around sustainability-centered nonprofit spotlights on the Updates page

Accessibility
Give Lively aims to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
As we advance in our efforts to make our web properties accessible to all, we welcome accessibility feedback, including pointers to any accessibility barriers. Write to us at accessibility@givelively.org; we try to respond within two business days.
Give Lively values directly related to accessibility
We do not approve the membership applications of any organization that will use our platform or products to:
Discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status in any activities, programs or operations
Specifically, Give Lively believes in promoting and upholding the rights of everyone regardless of physical, sensory, neurodivergent or intellectual disability.
Accessibility in practice
- Ongoing support for an internal, staff-managed special interest group that guides accessibility discussions, trainings and initiatives
- Establishment and auditing of accessibility goals with responsible champions on each team

- Use of established accessibility quality-assurance methods.
Additional accessibility information
- Give Lively donation pages and portals are built on macOS using a Chrome browser. The Give Lively website was designed in Webflow. Everything is now tested for accessibility using native assistive technology, as well as axe DevTools powered by deque.
- Internet Explorer is not supported by Give Lively.
- The accessibility of the Give Lively website and digital fundraising platform relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on a computer: Ruby, JavaScript, Haml, HTML and SCSS/CSS.
- There are some known limitations to our donation pages (note: we’re referring to the new payment form that will eventually become standard for all Give Lively-powered fundraising pages):
- Alt texts: There are no alt texts on images because there is no input field for them in the Nonprofit Admin Portal. We are planning a fix for this, but, in the meantime, encourage use of the campaign/event description field to make clear what appears in any images.
- Videos: Videos may not have captions and do not have transcripts because user-added videos may not include captions and there is no ability to add a transcript through the Nonprofit Admin Portal. We are planning to provide guidance about the importance of captions.
- Color contrasts: In some cases, user-set nonprofit brand colors may not adhere to accessible color contrast standards. We aim to provide overview guidance about these standards, but encourage users to pursue comprehensive third-party guidance as well. In other cases, our own text colors do not always meet contrast standards; we aim to correct this in upcoming redesigns.
