Our Peer-to-Peer Fundraising product enables a nonprofit’s supporters to create their own fundraising pages and raise money on its behalf. Peer-to-Peer Fundraising helps nonprofits like yours build engagement, connect with new donors and raise more with less effort.

Why use Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

  • Low effort, high reward: Your nonprofit can extend its reach without much extra work. Once donors become fundraisers, they introduce your mission to new networks of potential supporters.
  • Personalized outreach: When potential donors learn about a nonprofit from someone they know, they are more likely to trust the legitimacy of that nonprofit and feel comfortable giving their hard-earned dollars in support.
  • Cost effective: The use of Give Lively products is free for nonprofits, so adding Peer-to-Peer Fundraising won’t affect your bottom line – but it will boost your donations! Plus, our Peer-to-Peer Fundraising product is six times more effective than that of other platforms.

Our top tips

We compiled some of our favorite peer-based fundraising tactics. Nonprofits have used these to successfully incorporate Peer-to-Peer Fundraising into their strategies and make the most of their engaged supporters.

Leverage personal connections to expand reach

Encourage supporters and donors to become fundraisers and tap into their social networks. After supporters create a fundraising page, they naturally reach out to friends and family who might not otherwise be aware of your work. This expands your donor base without additional effort and increases the size of your email list.

Host a webinar to help supporters register

Hold a webinar or in-person event at which registered supporters learn about fundraising, receiving tips and tricks on how to be successful. Record the webinar to share in an email newsletter. Learn how to share your nonprofit's Peer-to-Peer Fundraising sign-up link with prospective fundraisers.

Show the impact with a clear call to action

Use specific, easy-to-understand language that highlights the potential of Peer-to-Peer Fundraising. For example, "Every dollar your friends raise counts toward purchasing school supplies for children living in high-need communities.” This drives action and makes the impact of giving tangible to donors.

Offer recognition to top fundraisers

Create an incentive program for your top fundraisers. Do shoutouts on social media or write a feature about them for your nonprofit's newsletter. People love recognition and this can motivate more donors to support your organization.

Promote fundraising in your emails

Add a call to action in your email communications about what it means to be a fundraiser. Show how easy it is for supporters and donors to start a Peer-to-Peer Fundraising page and include a link directly to a Campaign Page where they can sign up by clicking the “Start a Fundraiser” button. You can even make it part of your donor thank-you email after a donation, asking each donor to “take the next step and spread the word.”

Support your supporters

Share our Best practices guide for peer-to-peer team leaders with your supporters. Customize our 6 tips-for-fundraisers template on Canva with your nonprofit's logo and colors, then share it with your fundraisers so they can create more effective Peer-to-Peer Fundraising pages. Add additional guidelines particular to your organization.

Share success stories

Share stories from past supporters who became fundraisers. Highlight the impact they made on your organization. Personal stories about how other fundraisers raised money and connected with their networks will resonate with new potential fundraisers. Looking for inspiration? Host virtual fundraising challenges or events

Create a sense of friendly rivalry. Try organizing challenges through which individuals or teams compete to raise the most money. This can be a great way to engage your Board of Directors in a little competitive fundraising. Participants can publicize Leaderboards and tie the challenge to a specific fundraising goal (e.g. a new program or initiative).

Make it “mobile-friendly” and accessible

Ensure that your fundraising pages are mobile-friendly, as they are when powered by Give Lively. Many potential fundraisers share their pages via social media or text, and the easier they are to use, the more likely people will follow through.

Highlight the ease and low commitment

For some, the idea of fundraising can feel overwhelming. Emphasize that starting a Peer-to-Peer Fundraising page takes only a few minutes, it can be shared on social media with just a couple clicks and doesn't require an extensive time commitment! Position creating and sharing a Peer-to-Peer Fundraising page as “an easy way for people to make a bigger impact.”

Create a sense of urgency

Use time-sensitive language to create urgency. For example, “Help us reach our fundraising goal before the deadline!” or “The clock is ticking – become a fundraiser today to make your mark.”
