New payment methods: Venmo and monthly PayPal… with more to come
Today we are pleased to announce that we've added Venmo as a payment method and made PayPal available for recurring payments.
Importantly, this comes in time for GivingTuesday and on the heels of our review of major platform improvements completed in recent months.
Venmo
Venmo is a popular mobile app for payments and other money transfers. It is now automatically available as a payment method on Give Lively fundraising pages for one-time donations under certain conditions:
- The beneficiary nonprofit must have integrated its PayPal merchant account with Give Lively to accept Venmo payments. Venmo, which is owned by PayPal, is powered by our integration with PayPal.
- Donors must be US-based and have a Venmo account.
- Donors must be using a supported device: a laptop/desktop computer, an iOS platform using a Safari browser or an Android system using a Chrome browser.
- Payments must be made via our new payment form. (It is not available on the first-generation payment forms currently used on Event Ticketing and Team Fundraising pages.)

Monthly PayPal
PayPal has long been offered as an optional, additional donation-processing method on Give Lively fundraising pages. (This is in addition to Stripe, our required payment processor for credit/debit, ACH/bank transfer and digital wallet payments.) We are pleased to expand its applicability on new payment forms from one-time payments to both one-time and recurring payments.
We also made it possible for donors to cover PayPal payment processing fees.

Digital wallets
Give Lively was an early adopter of digital wallets. Our fundraising pages automatically detect if a donor's device/browser has Apple Pay or Google Pay enabled as a payment method. If detected, the relevant payment option appears.
In recent months we’ve been adding new digital wallet functionality:
- Apple Pay is now accepted as a payment method on Branded Donation Widgets, alongside Google Pay.
- On our new payment form, donors are able to make anonymous donations with all payment methods, including Google Pay and Apple Pay.

More to come
There’s a lot in the works, including:
- overhauled payment method management in the User Portal
- a new alternative payment processor, called Shift4, currently in closed beta
- new payment methods, especially donor-advised funds (DAFs)
- new payment frequencies – adding quarterly and yearly options.
